The Narrows cont'd

The further we got into The Narrows, the happier I was to have had my stick with me. There were more than a few times I wish I had a second one.

Mike slogged softly and carried a big stick. Here you can get a good look at the canyoneering shoes we rented. Mike is smiling because his feet are happy and warm. Actually he's smiling because the cool water never got much deeper than his thighs!

We decided this would be our turnaround point. The water was fairly deep to the left of this large boulder and there wasn't an easy way around to the right. It was hard to believe the scenery could get anymore interesting than Wall Street. We had a snack and just chilled for a while. It wasn't long before a couple came down river and over the rock beside us. They must have done the top-down route and started at Chamberlain Ranch. They had a really good pace going and looked very focused as they slogged by with barely a nod.

Well, we didn't make it to Big Spring as we had hoped, but it was a great hike(I don't think that crack gurgling clear sulphur smelling water into the murky Virgin qualified as Big Spring). We headed back down-river hoping to make it back to Zion Adventures before they closed. We were pretty sure they were open til 8.
